Our Aims

The Australian Brain Cancer Foundation Ltd is dedicated to being the leading foundation for Primary Brain Cancer awareness, research, and advocacy in the ACT region. Our core mission revolves around improving outcomes for Brain Cancer Patients. To achieve this, we focus on several key objectives and outcomes:

  • Supporting Primary Brain Cancer ResearchWe fund and promote advanced research into primary brain cancer in partnership with leading biomedical research institutions in the ACT region.
  • Supporting Clinicians and Raising AwarenessWe provide support to health professionals working in the Brain Cancer arena and raise community awareness about the importance of brain cancer as the impetus for future action.
  • Provide community access to a Brain Cancer Navigator programThe Foundation will fund an experienced Brain Cancer Navigator program (operated by the Peace of Mind Foundation (VIC)) for the region, to directly help patients and families experiencing brain cancer better navigate their new reality, understand treatments and ease some of the pressures of brain cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Highlighting Available Brain Cancer Care and ResearchWe aim to increase awareness of Canberra's unique and cutting-edge research and medical care facilities in the field of brain cancer, ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve.
  • Recruiting and Retaining TalentWe support the recruitment and retention of promising talent in primary brain cancer research and medical practice by offering scholarships and funding packages for long-term retention and skills development.
  • Bridging Community and ResearchWe serve as a vital link between community, patient groups, philanthropists, and brain cancer research and medical services.
  • Empowering Scientists and CliniciansWe create opportunities to empower scientists and clinicians in the brain cancer domain to improve the quality of life and increase survival rates for individuals affected by primary brain cancer.
  • Putting the ACT on the MapWe aim to position the ACT as a leading centre for Primary Brain Cancer research and care by highlighting the world-class researchers, clinicians, and facilities in the region.

  • Working in partnership with patient groups, clinical care staff, and medical research institutions.
  • Funding and supporting a fully equipped brain cancer navigator program for the Canberra region, to directly benefit brain cancer patients and families who will assist them in navigating through diagnosis, treatment and daily life.
  • Consulting with governments and collaborating with stakeholders across relevant disciplines.
  • Enabling advancement in higher education research institutions within the field of primary brain cancer.
  • Promoting awareness within the community to become a trusted source of brain cancer information.
  • Providing strategic leadership in brain cancer research.
  • Enhancing the quality of life for those affected by brain cancer through supportive care programs.
About Us
Our Board

The Board of Directors and Officers reflects the commitment to collaboration, transparency, and accountability. It establishes clear lines of communication and reporting, allowing for efficient decision-making, information sharing, and coordination of efforts. Our Board members are all well established Canberrans who work diligently to improve the lives of the ACT community.

Our Advisory Board & Fundraising Committee

Our Advisory Board consists of members who are experts in their respective fields and are able to offer proven strategic guidance to the Foundation and also includes individuals who represent major stakeholders in brain cancer research and outcomes, including donors, governance and legal and medical researchers.
 
Our Fundraising and Events Committee plans, prepares and manages our major events that fund the Foundation throughout the year. The Fundraising Committee is responsible for the coordination of events, promoting new ideas and establishing a presence amenable to soliciting donations.

Our Medical Advisory Committee

Our Medical Advisory Board allows the Foundation to gather the foremost and most renowned professionals in the fields of research and clinical practice to give direction to assist in achieving the outcomes of the Foundation by guiding the where and how our donations are best utilised, so that we can make effective impacts on brain cancer and the future.
